What is a mindful leader?

Meditation, Mindfulness

“A mindful leader is a man or a woman who chooses to train his or her mind, that is key, but the beauty of mindful leadership is that it can be done by anyone, anywhere, anytime.  The essence of it is inspiring the best in others…Leadership is a basic impulse of being human. We want to inspire the best in our world. We want to inspire the best in our neighbors, our employees, our colleagues…That is an expression of this quality of the human mind, that it wants to inspire the best in others.

My suggestion to people who are interested in bringing mindfulness into the workplace is to really deepen your practice. If you’re going to be teaching mindfulness to others, you should have at least done some intensive practice…The deepening of your experience of the mind in its healthiest form at its depth is a key ingredient for imparting this to others. So what I say to people all the time is that rather than trying to get other people to meditate, your job is to meditate, really work hard at it, and then go to work. Show up. And do your job.” – Michael Carroll
