You’re a retreat center…why do you need vehicles?
SMC is located on 600 acres of land. Many of the jobs here require employees to transport materials (such as meals for programs, cleaning supplies for bathhouses, linens for our satellite campus, and maintenance & repair equipment) over long distances. We would make them walk, but we’re dedicated to reducing suffering in the world.
My vehicle isn’t in the best condition…
Many of our vehicles have a lot of…character. Our cars are generally only used on our property – where there is almost no traffic and the speed limit is 5 – 15mph. Here’s a picture of one of housekeeping favorite and most reliable vehicles:
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes! Shambhala Mountain Center is a 501 (c) 3 tax-exempt charitable organization. Under IRS guidelines you are entitled to deduct the full value of your gift if you are a US citizen. SMC will provide you with a letter for your tax records upon your donation.
What kind of vehicles do you need?
Trucks and minivans are the most useful, and cars with significant storage capacity (such as station wagons and hatchbacks). Sedans and smaller cars are welcome also.
A tractor with a snow plow attachment, or a bobcatt, would cause significant jubilation across the land.
