How can I contact someone in an emergency?

You can call 970-881-2184 x334. Leave a message and an email is sent out immediately that there is a phone message.

I read about a fire in Colorado. Does this affect you?

Colorado can have multiple fires happening at a time, so it is important to know where they are and what the effect is on us. In the 40 years of DMC history, we have thankfully only evacuated once (twice?). We have a fire department at Drala Mountain Center and work with the local fire department and take any fire seriously. If a fire actually affects us, we will post a notification on the website.

Is it safe to come to Drala Mountain Center during fire season?

More often than not it is safe to be here. We will post a notice on the Drala Mountain Center website (test2.dralamountain.org) stating that SMC is closed because of a fire if there is any imminent danger. If there is a fire in the area that doesn’t endanger DMC, depending on the wind direction, the air can be smoky. If a guest has respiratory issues, please check the website as well as we will post if there is smoke in the area.

I have sensitivities to smoke or asthma, is it ok to be there?

Sometimes the smoke from a fire as far as any of the surrounding states will cause air quality problems. We will post smoke notification on the website.

How will I know if there is a fire and what happens to us while we are staying at Drala Mountain Center?

During fire season at your program orientation, we will give an overview of the fire evacuation procedure should that ever be needed. If there is a situations, DMC staff will go around in teams, gathering people, make sure everyone is accounted for and organizing transportation. If you arrived in your own vehicle, you may be needed to help transport people who haven’t. We like to keep everyone together as much as possible instead of people just leaving. You’ll be completely informed of everything and be well taken care of.
